An extremely quiet week unfortunately for Budleigh Cricket Club as the constant rain lead to several games being cancelled. However, the games that were played were very exciting and successful, writes Rosie Russell.
The U12s met with Exmouth at the Maer. Exmouth won the toss and elected to bat, allowing Budleigh to start off the game by showcasing their incredible fielding and bowling abilities.
Theo Campbell and Ted Neil were able to take a wicket each and Josh Down and Rudi Wilkinson both took two. After a run out by Bobby Ralph, Exmouth ended their 20-over innings with 106-7.
Budleigh sent in their openers Shem Ritchie (13) and Cody Rowson (8), accumulating a promising total thanks to top run scorers Ted Neil and Bobby Ralph, who both hit 13. Unfortunately, a run out on the final few balls led to Budleigh falling just short of Exmouth’s target by six runs.
In the Under 15’s game against Upottery, Budleigh set a challenging total of 114-4, thanks to runs accumulated by Jack Lamour (33), Otto Salih (20) and Will Cotton (14).
Budleigh bowlers Daniel Gracie and Jack Lamour each took a wicket and Jack Ponting took two. Due to this incredible bowling by all, Upottery reached 105/5 within their allocated overs. A brilliant win for Budleigh!
The Budleigh Women’s team played Exmouth B. after a recent loss to the Exmouth A, Budleigh were determined to secure a win, and that they did. Top run-scorers included Stella Westaway and Charlotte Taylor, both hitting 16 runs, and Hannah Bolwell with 19 off of just 11 balls for a 125-5 total.
Taylor would take a wicket from her bowling in the fielding innings but the most incredible bowling of the night came from Alice Parker who took a very impressive five wickets off of just four overs. This led Budleigh to a very well deserved victory as Exmouth only scored 115/7.
Sadly, the firsts, seconds and thirds games were all cancelled this Saturday due to the rain.
Games to look forward to next week include an under 13’s game against Exmouth, the firsts playing Clyst St George and the seconds against Clyst Hydon. This is, of course, hoping for a change in the weather.
