Teams from Exonia, Honiton, Madeira, Ottery, Phear Park and Sidmouth travelled to Budleigh to play in the annual Victory Cup competition, writes Tony Mackness.
The six visiting teams each played the six teams from Budleigh in a Round Robin Triples competition and, after 18 ends of entertaining bowls, the winning visitors were the players from Honiton.
However, the Victory Cup was won by the Budleigh team of Robin Grenyer, Paul Griffin, and Stewart Jackson, who produced an aggregate score of + 20 shots.
Tony Mackness, Budleigh Captain, commented: “It is always great to welcome visiting bowlers to the Club and it is these friendly yet competitive matches that make the sport so enjoyable.”
David Roberts and Jackey Phillips made a valiant effort to win the final of the Devon Bowls Section 3 Mixed Pairs Championship.
The match against Lilian and Terry Hurley Smith was played on their home turf at Seaton. Jackey and David took an early lead, but the skill and experience of the home pair soon showed, and they took back the lead and kept it for the rest of the match. The final result was a win for Seaton of 21-11.
