It has been a week of sadness at Budleigh Salterton FC, following the passing away during the week, firstly of Steve “PIKE” Howarth, who was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour about 18 months ago, writes Spurs Tome.
Not only was he a loyal servant to the club, but also a legend there as a player, together with his father and his brothers, he was a very good friend to so many, including myself.
We also lost another ex-player in young Laura (Ollie) Stephenson, who played for BSFC Women up to about three years ago (she could play either in goal or as an outfield player) until she was diagnosed with cancer. Our thoughts are with the families.
On the pitch, Budleigh Salterton will welcome Plymouth True Blues in the second round of the Devon Premier Cup after a confident 4-1 victory at Upottery. The goals came from Jack Hocking, Oscar Walsh, Jake Chudley and Ryan Fell.
