A battling Budleigh Salterton just came up short in a tight battle with visiting Mount Gould in the Devon Football League.
Jack Hocking was once again on target for the Robins but goals from Lewis Vooght and Liam Parnell proved enough for Gould to take maximum points, a result that pushed the visitors up to third in the league. Budleigh are 13th in the reconstructed league of 18 teams and the Robins travel to Elmore this weekend.
Appledore currently lead the division, closely followed by Beer Albion and Mount Gould but in such a tight league, a run of victories would bring Budleigh back into the race.
In Division 3 of the Devon & Exeter League, Budleigh 2nds continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory at Hemyock. The goals were scored by Jordan Wakefield (2), Greg MacMartin and Dan Tapp, keeping Budleigh two points clear at the top.
