Lympstone U16s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought win over Central Rovers, who were also looking to extend their run without loss.
The early exchanges saw Rovers hit the bar and have a goal ruled out for offside but their pressure was soon rewarded with the opening goal. This seemed to pour new life into Lympstone with Brodie Frazer and Jack Johnsin terrorising the Central defence.
The equaliser arrived when a looping ball from Harry Briggs was coolly headed in at the back post by Jamie Wilks. Brodie Frazer added another before Rovers found a leveller of their own.
A sublime shot with the outside of the left boot by Billy Carpenter nestled into the bottom corner and another goal by Brodie Frazer saw Lympstone go into half-time with a two-goal lead.
The second half saw a Rovers goal within minutes of kick off but a quick reply came from Jamie Wilks to restore the two-goal advantage. It wouldn't last long, as three goals in three minutes made it 4-5 to Lympstone.
Jack Johnson and Brodie Frazer continued to cause all sorts of problems in the opposition defence and claimed a goal each to make it 4-7 with half an hour still to go.
Rovers scored two more to set up a nervy finish but Brodie Frazer found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the match in the dying minutes to ensure Lympstone are top as they go into the Cup break.
On the men’s side of the club, Lympstone are currently sitting ninth in Division 1 of the Devon and Exeter League, with one win from their opening four fixtures.
On Saturday, Lympstone recovered from a 2-0 deficit at home to University of Exeter 3rds to earn an excellent draw. Jack Draper and substitute Tom Rowsell scored the goals to rescue a deserved point.
This came after losses to Hatherleigh Town and Bow AAC. Lympstone opened their campaign with a 2-1 win at St Martins, Harry Bennett and Alfie Gillard scoring the goals.
