In a touching display of charity and resourcefulness, Withycombe Rugby Club is teaming up with the Educational Development Projects (EDP) Trust to donate old rugby kit to children in Ghana, writes Adam Curtis.
This heartwarming initiative is not only providing much-needed sports gear but is also igniting a newfound passion for rugby among Ghanaian youth.
Going beyond the boundaries of the rugby field, Withycombe Rugby Club has demonstrated its commitment to making a meaningful difference in the world. In collaboration with the EDP Trust, the club has embarked on a mission to establish a lasting connection with the Awutu-Winton Senior High School in Ghana. The goal is to empower and inspire young minds by introducing them to the joy of rugby.
Max Sayers, a representative of the EDP Trust, passionately expressed the impact of this venture. He said: "Some of them have never played rugby; some of them don't even know what rugby is. Then the moment you introduce it, you see a light bulb moment go off in their head, and they go, 'This is incredible.' Then they'll start running around and they have the best time."
Sayers went on to emphasise the broader significance of this partnership, asserting that it will empower the students of Awutu-Winton Senior High School to "improve their lives, enhance their self-esteem, boost their fitness levels, and lay the foundation for grassroots rugby in Ghana. I think it's just an amazing thing, so thank you so much for this incredible donation."
The collaboration between Withycombe Rugby Club and the EDP Trust represents an inspiring example of how the sporting community can come together to make a difference. Through the donation of old kit, the club aims to foster a love for rugby, promote physical activity, and positively impact the lives of children thousands of miles away.
With this initiative, Withycombe Rugby Club demonstrates its commitment not only to rugby but also to the broader global community. The club's dedication to enriching the lives of young people through sport is commendable and sets a remarkable example for others to follow.
