The Devon Football League signed off for 2023 with an entertaining East Devon derby between Budleigh Salterton and Ottery St Mary, the predatory finishing of Jack Hocking ultimately deciding the outcome.
A tight start to the game yielded few chances before one moment of real quality saw Oscar Walsh pick out Hocking with a delicious pass on the half-hour, and the Budleigh frontman took his opportunity with customary style.
Ottery responded with a fine effort that forced the best from home custodian Luke Burns and another fabulous assist from Walsh gave Hocking his second three minutes after the half-time break.
Once again, the Otters came back fighting and deservedly pulled a goal back through Tommy Taylor. Ottery knocked on the Budleigh door for the remainder of the game but Budleigh bagged the points.
The Robins restart on January 6 with a trip to Bere Alston, while the Otters host North Molton.
