Sloppy goals and missed chances cost East Budleigh a 4-2 defeat at home to Newtown 2nds, writes Mark Auton. They will also point to the fact that the visitors first team did not have a game.
The Jays found themselves three down after 33 minutes with the away side punishing the Budleigh defence. For Budleigh, Adam Wilkinson was denied by the Newtown ‘keeper before Hugo Demetre saw his excellent strike come back off the bar leaving Jack Greenslade to tap the ball into the net just before half-time.
In the second half, the away side added a fourth to make life difficult for Budleigh. The hosts used Alex Manning, Kyle Pearcey, Jack Morgan and James Bridge from the bench and it was the latter that finished well after a Wilkinson shot was saved to add a second consolation.
Sam Balbi and Rian Hill worked particularly hard for a Budleigh side who visit neighbours Lympstone on Saturday.
