Local swimmer, Esmé Wykes, competed at the Devon County Championships held in Plymouth over three weekends and came home with a haul of medals
The weekends are an opportunity for swimmers, with qualification times, to race against the top performers, throughout the county, in their age groups.
Esmé, who was taught to swim by Jeremy Wassall, at LED Exmouth Leisure Centre, managed to reach the finals in 12 events.
The 200m freestyle final was a thrilling battle which saw Esmé, who is coached by Exmouth local & Exeter City Swim Club Performance Pathway coach, Glenn Currie, drop over 10 seconds from her PB to touch the wall in 1st place.
Esmé, initially of Exmouth Swimming and Lifesaving Society, went on to become the 13 year-old age group Devon County champion in the 200m & 100m Butterfly and the 200, 100, & 50m freestyle events. In total, she left Plymouth with 5 golds, 1 silver & 6 bronze medals.
