Budleigh Salterton suffered penalty heartbreak in defeat to Ipplepen Athletic and bowed out of the Devon Premier Cup in the process.
The Robins were the stronger side in the first break and deservedly went ahead through Jack Hocking, but they were unable to maintain that momentum as the second period became a little scrappy.
Ipplepen took advantage to level the scores and with no extra time, it was straight to penalties. The hosts held their nerve from the spot to progress with a 5-3 victory in the shoot-out.
Budleigh get back on the wagon with a visit from Bere Alston United on Saturday and a big chance to push forward with their top-five hopes. The Robins have played more games than the teams around them but the Devon Football League is so condensed that a quick run of wins would quickly lift them up the table.
