A vastly improved performance from Budleigh Salterton saw the Robins rise to fifth in the Devon Football League following a confident 3-0 win home victory over fourth-placed Plymouth Marjon, writes Alan Beer.
Following the pain of conceding a three-goal lead to lose at Ottery St Mary last weekend, Budleigh set about their task in determined fashion, forcing the Marjon ‘keeper into a string of early saves.
Leading scorer then fired narrowly wide in a dominant start and reward finally arrived with a sublime opener, Jake Chudley turning smartly on the edge of the penalty area before curling a delightful finish into the top corner.
The Robins kept up their intensity after the break and Hocking doubled the lead with another fine finish from 18 yards. Victory was confirmed by a stunning strike from Jacob Tinlsey, smashing the ball into the net from 25 yards.
Budleigh goalkeeper Luke Burns made a superb late save to preserve the clean sheet and the Robins will move on with confidence for the trip to Plymstock United this weekend.
Following another Devon & Exeter Football League Division Three setback the previous Saturday, Budleigh Salterton 2nds produced a pulsating performance last Wednesday to overcome Second Division opponents Clyst Valley 2nds, writes SpursTom.
The victory meant progress in the Grandisson Cup and the fun started with a goal from Joey Bagley on 24 minutes.
After the break, we followed the same pattern of the first, with both goalkeepers, Mark Brown and Ben Jeffrey, producing several good saves. Eventually, it was Budleigh who strengthened their grip with a second goal.
Greg MacMartin fired home a left-footed shot and soon afterwards, Paul Barnes increased the advantage to 3-0. MacMartin completed the scoring in a fine victory. The result takes them to an away Quarter-Final meeting with further Second Division challengers in the shape of Farway United, who they are also scheduled to meet in the Bill Slee Cup.
Budleigh Salterton FC Women team were beaten recently in a Devon Women’s Football League Premier Division match, going down 1-2 on an away visit to Fremington. The Robinettes’ solitary goal coming from Kirsty Brown.
