The curtain was brought down on the 2023-2024 season with Sidmouth Town 2nd picking up the Grandisson Cup at the expense of Budleigh Salterton (2-0).
It took place in front of a very large group of spectators at Ottery St Mary Football Club on Thursday, May 30.
Though Budleigh may be disappointed in the result, they cannot complain of the game itself, which was a very good match, and well contested.
Third Division side Budleigh Salterton 2nd took on their local rivals, Premier Division outfit Sidmouth Town 2nd, and set out to prove they would be no push overs, and started brightly.
Both sides went about testing the other’s defence, but no one was able to break the deadlock, as the first half finished 0-0.
It all changed so very quickly at the start of the second period, the Robins were broken twice by the marauding Vikings within three minutes of the kick-off, with Jack Drew-Cull and Soren Hall finding the target.
The Sidmouth defence stood firm from then on, and came close to increasing the lead whenever they counter attacked, with victory thoroughly deserved, and worthy winners of this term’s Grandisson Cup.
Budleigh Salterton themselves can be very proud of how they performed in the cup competitions, especially when you consider their league results from the start of 2024, recording only one win out of 10 matches played.
Full 2023-2024 details: Played 22, Won 10, Drew 3, Lost 9. Goals For 73, Goals Against 55, Goal Difference Plus 18, Points 33. Finished 6th out of 12 teams.
