Great success as a popular championship returns to an East Devon golf club.
Ashley Mansell of Clevedon Golf Club has emerged as the champion of the 2024 Avocet Wealth Partnership Pro-Am at the East Devon Golf Club.
The popular Pro-Am returned after a 12-year pause, and Mansell was one of the 44 professional golfers from the South West to partner with 132 local amateurs to take on Budleigh Salterton’s challenging clifftop heathland course, on a sunny but very windy day.
Still, he secured his victory with 71 shots, exceeding the course par by just one.
This has become the new professional course record following changes to the course’s design in 2012.
In the team competition, the most favourable were the top two scores from each four-player team.
The MJ Baker Foodservice team, comprising professional Adam Curtis and amateurs Malcolm Baker, Andy Procter and Lewis Baker, won with an impressive 84 Stableford points.
The Pro-Am has been ruled a success, and it is set to return next year.
