In a thrilling comeback from being 10 points behind, Madeira Bowling Club snatched victory from Broadclyst BC.
The matches, which were held on June 29, 2024, saw three rounds of the Bowls Devon Section 3 Men’s 2 Woods Singles play out, complete with excellent performances by winners Adam Dredge from Honiton BC in Group A, and Daniel Humphries from Chardstock BC in Group B.
In the lead-up to the half-time, Broadclyst BC was leading by 33 to 23.
However, the phrase commonly heard in the bowling circle rung true - everything changes after tea.
Indeed, Madeira took control after the break, winning the game by a margin of 18, with an overall standing of 68 to 50.
Madeira's top rank consisted of skipper Ian Harvey, supported by Sue Humphries and Carol Hyett.
The trio pulled off an outstanding performance, crushing their competitors with a score of 28 to 6.
They also secured a commendable achievement of winning 13 out of the 18 ends.
Another notable event in the club was Madeira's warm reception of 19 members of the Tri-Hards, a well-being and fitness group.
As the evening sun bathed the lawns, several seasoned Madeira members and two club coaches helped the newcomers try their hand at bowling.
This was reportedly the third visit for many, while some were trying it out for the first time.
The gathering gained consensus as an enjoyable one, and Madeira anticipates hosting a similar event again in the foreseeable future.
