July 6 - Having lost by just one shot at Honiton BC in June, Madeira BC were out to reverse the situation when they hosted the visitors on their home green.

Unfortunately, that was not to be as Honiton fielded a very strong side and came out winners by winning on four of the five rinks, and by 19 shots overall.

The best performance for Madeira was skipped by president Mary Ann Dowrick playing with Joan Cowing and Laurie Humphries, who won by 3 shots.

July 9 - After a mixed game against Axminster BC and a men’s match against Chardstock BC being cancelled, one game which did go ahead, despite the very unseasonal chilly weather, was the ladies' invitation Pomeroy Trophy.

Teams from Budleigh Salterton BC, Exonia BC, Feniton BC, and Seaton BC played against four ladies’ teams from Madeira – all vying to get their hands on the coveted prize.

With the inclusion of a lovely cream tea being served to all players, in the end, it was the team from Feniton BC who claimed a narrow victory having scored the same number of points as the team from Seaton BC but with a marginally higher shot difference.

Highest scoring rink for Madeira was achieved by Christine Macaulay (skip), Jan Roberts, Carole Worth & Annette Bister.

July 12 - The Kentish Men and Maids from Bromley Town BC brought eight rinks and one triple to Madeira for an afternoon of first-rate bowling.

Madeira took the opportunity of introducing several new members into their teams to gain experience, all of whom agreed that it was a very useful learning curve.

The match was slightly spoiled by heavy showers for the last two ends and the visitors finally came out on top by just 5 shots with the home side scoring 128 shots to Bromley Town’s 133.

Top rink for Madeira went to skip Sue Harriott playing with Chris Reed, Chris Trayler, and Lyn Hambly who had a +13 shot win.

In other news, the Madeira ladies continue to do well in the Exeter & District Ladies Triples League.

Playing against Exonia BC this week, both teams had significant wins.

Skip Jenny Smith with Annette Bister and Ann Maloney won 17 shots to 8 and on the other rink, skip Lyn Hambly aided by Jude Latta and Carolyn Parker won 25 shots to 14 having been 8 shots down after the 5th end.

The Madeira ladies remain top of Division 3 with 21 points, five ahead of their nearest rivals Culm Vale BC.
