A superb century from wicketkeeper/batter Alfie Jaques led Uplyme to a comfortable victory in a high-scoring Devon League C Division East match.
Jaques’ impressive 102 off 121 balls, which included 15 fours, was key to their win over Budleigh Salterton II.
Uplyme posted a formidable score of 301-6, setting a challenging target for Budleigh Salterton II, who could only manage 234-9, falling short by 67 runs.
Despite an early stumble at 48 for 2, Uplyme managed an outstanding recovery to claim maximum batting points before finally surpassing the three-hundred mark.
Other exceptional performers included skipper Sam Farrow who made 69 runs at almost a run per ball.
Joe Elsworth and Preston Hilless each notched 36, while Mark Batey and Steve Batey both added 22 to the total.
For Budleigh, Lee Russell put up a valiant fight, scoring 68 runs during the majority of their innings.
However, Russell was caught by Jaques from a delivery by Andrew Harrison.
The later dismissal of Daniel Messom sealed Budleigh's fate.
Uplyme's commendable fielding prevented Budleigh's dogged retreat but was unable to earn them a full 20-point reward.
Amongst the bowlers, Elsworth, Harrison, and Farrow each claimed 2 wickets.
Following this triumph, Uplyme will host league leaders Braunton at the King George V Playing Field on the upcoming Saturday, with a kickoff time of 1pm.
Meanwhile, there was recent disappointment for Uplyme in the Devon Cricket League Ivor Dewdney T20 Corinthian Cup held at Sandford CC last Sunday.
Despite a strong performance, Uplyme was defeated in the semi-finals by long-standing rivals Teignmouth and Shaldon.
They managed a respectable 137 for 8, but conceded too many runs early on and could not overcome Teignmouth's stronger batting, ending their cup run prematurely.
