Jon Lee-Smith from Madeira Bowling Club triumphed in the Edwin Putt Trophy Competition on August 17.

The competition saw seven of the club's newest members face off in three games of six ends each.

Two points were awarded for a win and one for a draw.

Lee-Smith secured a victory in the final, defeating Dave Veale with a score of eight shots to four.

His win came largely due to a four he scored in the third end.

A few days later, on August 20, the Madeira ladies came out in force for the annual Grace Matthews Triples Tournament.

The play was conducted under clear skies with eight teams going toe-to-toe in six ends each.

The triumphant team, led by skip Lin Halpin along with Joan Cowing and Janet Grundy, showcased a striking performance, winning all their matches and achieving a shot difference of +25.

Credit for the tournament's organisation was given to Ann Maloney, Sandie Cox, and Glynis Byrn, with recognition also directed toward those who prepared the 'Wimbledon' cream tea.

On August 22, five Dawlish Marina BC triples graced Madeira's bowling terrain hoping to turn the tide following a previous loss on their own green.

Despite launching a strong start in the first half by equaling their total shot number from their earlier match, the teams concluded the match with a draw, however, Dawlish outscored Madeira by 86 shots to 77.

Jacky Howle, Sylvia Cook, and Dave Veale emerged as the top rink for Madeira after recovering from a six shots to 12 deficit at tea time, ending the match with a 22 shots to 17 victory.

The club finals are scheduled for August 31 and September 1.

Fourteen cups and trophies are up for grabs, with guarantees of a thrilling weekend filled with quality bowling due to the pristine state of the greens and the forecast of fine weather.
