Budleigh Beavers clinched a crucial victory keeping them on course for promotion in the Wednesday Exeter and District Over 60s Triples League.
In their last game, the Beavers headed to Honiton hoping to bag maximum points.
The team managed to rack up seven of the eight available points, culminating in a close 41-36 overall victory.
This fine performance has kept the Beavers' promotion hopes alive, though they wait in the wings while other teams complete their fixtures.
Robin Grenyer, Brian Ward and skip Terry Flynn formed a formidable trio, securing a consequential 22-17 win – the turning point was a five-shot win on the sixteenth end, which boosted the team's chances.
Their rivals, Ted Shanahan, Les Gay and Bryan Membery, managed only a 19-19 draw on their rink.
The drawn result was declared by the Beavers after their last bowl of the match.
The Beavers' colleagues, the Budleigh Otters, did not share in the day's success.
Their trip to Axminster in Division Two ended in defeat on the notorious Axminster outdoor carpet, where only one team has won all season.
Peter Foreman, Norman Upchurch and skip David Roberts did manage to hold back the home side in the initial plays but eventually lost to them by eight shots.
Similarly, unsuccessful were Paul Griffin, Mike James and Andy Cardy, losing 23-10.
There is still a sliver of hope for the Otters, as they could secure second place and promotion – but this depends on them taking all eight points at home against league leaders Tiverton, and Seaton and Axminster stumbling in their away games.
