Exmouth Rugby 1st Team have narrowly lost to Topsham RFC in a thrilling cup match.

In a closely contested game, held on October 5, the Exmouth Cockles fell just short, losing 29-26 to a spirited Topsham side.

The first half ended with Exmouth leading 11-10, thanks to two penalties from George Meadows and a try by Fin Marks.

Topsham’s James Mattin responded with a penalty and conversion, alongside a try from Robin Edbrooke.

The second half saw Exmouth extend their lead to 21-10 with tries from Dave Bargent and Charlie Gibbings.

However, the match took a turn as Topsham clawed back with tries from Tom Oxland and Mattin, bringing the score to 21-17.

Bargent added another try for Exmouth, pushing the score to 26-17 with 20 minutes left to play.

In a dramatic finish, mistakes crept into Exmouth's play, allowing Topsham to capitalise.

Mattin scored again, and a converted try from Christian Edbrooke sealed the game, ending it at 29-26.

Take nothing away from Topsham, they stuck to their remit of open rugby, whilst taking their opportunities more confidently than their opposition.

Looking ahead, Exmouth Rugby will aim to regain their winning form in their upcoming match against Brixham on October 12.
