East Budleigh FC defeated Newton St Cyres 2-1 to extend their lead at the top of Devon & Exeter Division 1.
The match took place last Saturday and showcased a strong performance from East Budleigh.
The attacking players, including Jack Greenslade and brothers Brad and Toby Hill, along with Player of the Match Adam Wilkinson, were vital in the first half.
Midfielders Rian Hill and Mark Lever also contributed significantly to the team's dominance.
East Budleigh opened the scoring after 20 minutes.
Rian passed to Toby, who set up Greenslade for a well-placed shot that left the visiting goalkeeper with no chance.
Fifteen minutes later, the home side doubled their lead when Brad initiated a run, Sam Balbi delivered a cross, and Wilkinson finished the move.
Before half-time, Lever came close to adding a third, hitting the bar.
The second half saw Newton St Cyres fight back and score in the 58th minute.
However, East Budleigh's defence, led by Balbi, Hugo Demetre, Jack England, and Guy Laverock, stood strong.
Goalkeeper Jack Rowaland made crucial saves to maintain the lead.
Substitutes Kyle Barnsley, James Bridge, Jack Howarth, and Kyle Pearcey offered fresh legs, with Pearcey winning a penalty that was saved.
Despite a late push from Newton, East Budleigh secured the victory.
This Saturday, they travel to Teignmouth.
