Budleigh Salterton Veterans Reds triumphed over Whimple Veterans 5-3 in the Robson Financial Devon County Veterans Cup.
Sam Schlaefli was the star of the show, scoring four of the five goals.
The match, held on Sunday, November 10, saw the Robins Vets off to a shaky start with Whimple netting a goal in the eighth minute.
However, Schlaefli levelled the scores in the 23rd minute with an assist from Richard Higham.
He then converted a penalty in the 32nd minute, followed by a goal from Karl Rickard just before the half-time break.
Six minutes into the second half, Schlaefli completed his hat-trick, only for Whimple to pull one back within four minutes.
Undeterred, Schlaefli regained Budleigh's three-goal lead with his fourth in the 59th minute.
The final act of the afternoon saw the Whimple goalkeeper score his side’s third from the spot, rounding off his man-of-the-match performance.
Despite this, Budleigh Salterton’s offensive onslaught and Whimple's missed chances ensured a 5-3 victory for the visitors.
They now progress to the next round of the cup.
The draw will reveal their next opponents.
