Both teams then struggled to break through each other's defences for the next 20 minutes.
Ivybridge managed to score their first try at the 25-minute mark, bringing the score to 7-5.
Charlie Dore crossed the line for Exmouth, and an infringement by Ivybridge led to a penalty, which was capitalised on by the Cockles.
This left Exmouth leading 10-7 at the break.
The second half saw Exmouth play with a mix of power and quick hands.
Charlie Gibbings scored two tries, one of which was converted by George Meadows, bringing the score to 22-7.
Ivybridge managed to reduce the deficit to 22-14 with their second try.
However, Exmouth added further scores from Toby Papp and Fin Marks, with Meadows adding another two points from the tee.
A lineout steal by Joe Harris denied Ivybridge any chance of adding to their score, leaving the final score at 34-14.
This victory earned Exmouth five more league points, keeping them at the top of the table with three more fixtures to go before the halfway point of the season.
The team was supported by a strong travelling fan base.
Next, Exmouth will face Marlborough RFC at home on November 16.
Elsewhere, the Exmouth reserve side, the Cockles Quins, lost 24-13 to Withycombe RFC 1st Team.
The team, a mix of youngsters and a few older players could not match the more organised Withycombe team.
Richard Cadywould opened the scoring with a drop goal, while Chris Wright and Eddie Hooper added tries for the hosts.
The match was part of Past Players Day, which saw a large turnout of players and spectators.
Many of the players from both teams started their rugby careers at Exmouth Rugby Club.
The day ended with a performance from the band One For The Road.
The Cockles Colts also had a strong performance, securing a 24-14 win against South Molton Colts in their penultimate first-stage league game.
The youngsters showed their potential against a physical South Molton side.
The Quins will next face South Molton RFC on November 16, while the Cockles Colts and Nomads will take a break.
The club is looking forward to their next home game against Marlborough RFC, which coincides with Vice Presidents Day, promising another exciting day of rugby.
